How To Smoke Pot Without a Pipe When You Don’t Have a Pipe

Rolling a joint is a classic method for smoking pot without a pipe. You’ll need ground-up weed and some rolling papers (get these at your local dispensary or nearly any gas station; ask for 1¼ papers, the standard size).

It’s suggested to also have a “crutch,” or filter, though it’s not necessary. This is a thin, folded piece of cardboard placed at one end of the joint to help stabilize it and to allow you to smoke all your weed without burning your fingers or lips. Rip a small piece of cardboard off your rolling papers pack, fold it like an accordion, and then fold the whole thing in half so it’ll be small enough to fit inside your joint.

Place your rolling paper on a table or something flat, put your crutch at one end, and place the ground weed all through the middle of the paper, following the crease.

Then, pick up both of the long sides of the paper and pinch them together with your thumb and forefinger. Start rolling the paper back and forth between your fingers. This helps pack the weed and shape your joint. If weed starts falling out of the side, just shove it back in.

Now, tuck one end of the paper inside. Pull the other side over so the whole thing is rounded. Lick the exposed side to activate its glue, and press it down to seal it. Twist the end without the crutch, and light it up.

Smoking Out of an Apple

This is one of the more creative ways to smoke pot without a pipe. Essentially, you’re turning an apple into a pipe.

Remove the stem, and poke or cut a small hole from the top of the apple to its core. Many people use a pen or a pencil to do this. This will be your bowl.

Poke a hole on the side of the apple the same way, making sure it connects to the center as well. This will be where you inhale. Picture an “L” shape within your apple.

Poke a third hole on another side of the apple and connect it as well. This will be your carb.

In your bowl (the hole on top), you can either place foil with holes poked into it to hold your weed or just pack your weed directly in it. Then, hit it like you would any other pipe, using the carb hole to control airflow.
